How to make a silhouette photograph

Silhouette is a picture of the main objects in total darkness with a bright background, so the look is sort of the main object was. Photographing the silhouette is not as difficult as one might imagine, as long as you know the steps and the tips of his. Please:

Turn off Flash
The first and foremost is the flash on the camera to be turned off, otherwise you will get regular photos (as its main object is not so dark). So turn off your flash on camera

Find the right lighting conditions (backlight)
To produce a silhouette, you need brighter background than the main object. That's why most of silhouette images done during the sunset or sunrise, when the sun (light source) is behind the object you want to photograph (backlighting). But do not limit yourself, silhouette image can be produced at any time, at the point you just have to find a background that is lighter than the main object.

Look for an object that looks interesting
Silhouette image will highlight the shape of the main object, therefore, look for objects with interesting shapes and has a strong character. Note the photo above, because the main object (fish finder) loss of detail and a very dark, the shape would be more exposed. We can see clearly the limits of the curve shape of the fishermen, nets and frames to form water droplets that come out of the net. You can also try with other objects.

Look for the right background
To get the silhouette you have to find a lighter background. Try also to get an interesting background, but also not crowded so the main object looks very prominent. The sky and the beach is a favorite example.

Measure the exact exposure (manual / auto)
Wherever possible use manual exposure mode. Set metering in spot metering. Perform measurements in the background of the brightest. In the photo above example I measure the skylight above the helmet. Change the combination of aperture and shutter speed according to the results of your metering, especially make sure you set the aperture to your liking (large aperture to blur the background and a rather small aperture for sharp background). Once you determine the aperture and shutter speed is selected, point the camera to the main object. Arrange h3 determine the best and focus on the main object, then snap
If you can not use the manual mode, use auto mode. Point the camera to the brightest area, in the example above is to the sky above the fish finder, Click here half your shutter (do not push the full) and then hold down the shutter is not released. Then point the camera at your main object and then snap

Do not be afraid to try
Try a combination of aperture and shutter speed are different if you fail at the first opportunity. Try also experimenting with objects and your surroundings, do not just stare at the sunset and sunrise, because the silhouette image can be produced anywhere.
