Matano Lake is a lake in South Sulawesi, precisely located at the southern tip of the island of Sulawesi in town Sorowako, East Luwu. This lake has a depth of 600 meters (1,969 feet), 382 meters above sea level them. According to WWF, this lake is the deepest lake in Southeast Asia and eighth in the world's deepest.
Lake Matano is not the creation of the some tributaries, but are formed of the thousands of springs so it will never suffer from drought. The water is very clear.
As a natural resource potential, the company the world's second largest nickel mining, PT.INCO (now has changed its name to Vale) utilizing waste water from Lake Matano as hydroelectric power (hydropower) for use in the factory, and also for use by society.
